The Haitian Crisis: A Symposium at Harvard University

Panelist Patrick Sylvain
Update 1: I found what looks to be a good summary of the historical relationship between Haiti and DR here

Update 2: Looks like I might be wrong about when the DR was founded. Thanks to Greg who has offered a differing view on the historical relationship between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. I will keep digging. GI

NB: The video only includes the remarks of the first panelist, Patrick Sylvain. You can can listen to the entire program @ the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute website. Interestingly, Sylvain perpetuates the historical myth that Ayiti (Haiti) invaded the Dominican Republic. At the time of this so-called "invasion" there was no such thing as the Dominican Republic and the territory in question was occupied by the Spanish who enforced plantation-style slavery on the people (hopefully someone reading this can clarify this if I have it wrong).

"The Haitian Crisis: A Symposium" was co-sponsored by the Committee on African Studies, the Department of African and African American Studies, and the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research on January 29th, 2010.

Panelist included: Junot Diaz, P. Gregg Greenough, Jennifer Leaning, Patrick Sylvain, and Marie-Louise Jean-Baptiste
