Does Paul Kagame have a pan-African hit-squad?

There appears to be an orchestrated effort to eliminate or intimidate members of the Rwandan opposition. I also recall that a Tanzanian lawyer was killed not long ago in Dar es Salaam. He was representing a prominent Rwandan being tried @ ICTR. I don't know that the govt was involved in the Dar murder, but a pattern is emerging. Its especially worrisome that perceived enemies can be targeted beyond Rwanda's borders. Transnational political hits have historically been a tactic of the United States (think Lumumba and Nkrumah). I hope it doesn't become a problem in Africa. GI

South Africa has recalled its ambassador to Kigali following a diplomatic row over the shooting of an exiled Rwandan army general in Johannesburg, the foreign ministry has confirmed.

"We have recalled our ambassador to Rwanda for consultations. Let me be categorical. We have not broken diplomatic relations with Rwanda," foreign ministry director General Ayanda Ntsaluba told a news conference.

The move is traditionally the strongest demonstration of official disapproval short of severing diplomatic relations, but Gen Ntsaluba said Pretoria was in discussions with the Rwandan government.

"All of us are just trying to understand how we can work on our relations," he said.

Former Rwandan general Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa was shot and wounded on June 19. His wife has called the shooting an assassination attempt sparked by Gen Nyamwasa's criticisms of President Paul Kagame.
