Dig it!
I received some Afro-fabulous news a few nights ago.

The academic journal African Affairs, has awarded my good friend, George Milliar, the African Author Prize for his recent article, Chieftaincy, diaspora and development: the institution of Nkosuohene ["Development Chief'] in Ghana.  Brother George is a Ph.D. student @ the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon.

I was doubly excited about the news because I was in Ghana to witness George's dedication to the project. And I can still recall the first day he mentioned to me the idea for the article. I remember him working on various drafts and wondering when the heck he was going to finish the thing!

He obviously finished very well.

Congrats brother, well done!

So what is the article about, you ask. Well, have you ever wondered what, exactly, it means for an African American or a Jamaican or an Afro-Brazilian or a white man to become a chief in Ghana ? Well that is basically what the essay covers.

Below is a snapshot of the first page of the article. (African Affairs 2009 108(433):541-558)

This one is for you brother. Celebrate!
